Two concentrations, one defined process stream

Copper-foil production requires the prepared electrolyte to meet the process specification before it is sent to the electro-deposition equipment. Rhosonics describes monitoring Cu++ and H2SO4 in a recirculation bypass at the storage tank using ultrasonic, conductivity and temperature inputs. Its case study used a CCM 9580 and a polypropylene measuring cell. That documented arrangement is a starting point for review, not a universal specification for every electrolyte.

Define the copper-foil concentration basis

Dual-component measurement needs a chemistry-specific model and reference method.

Copper ion range

Record the expected Cu++ concentration, makeup, dissolution and plating-related variation.

Acid range

Document free sulphuric-acid concentration and any other dissolved components that could affect the calibration.

Bypass conditions

Review flow, temperature, solids or gas, cell material and access to the storage-tank recirculation loop.

Reference analysis

Agree laboratory methods and paired samples for both concentrations over the intended operating range.

A practical measurement review pathway

Move from a broad process idea to a defined, testable duty before using the signal for decisions.

Map the electrolyte loop

Locate the storage, recirculation and electro-deposition boundaries.

Define both outputs

Specify the Cu++ and H2SO4 values and the process action attached to each.

Review materials

Check wetted components against the actual solution and conditions.

Validate the model

Compare both outputs with representative laboratory results before process use.

Where the measurement adds value

Set out both the useful signal and its limitations before specifying the instrument.

Operational value

A validated two-component online trend can help operators identify drift before the electrolyte reaches the electro-deposition stage and provide more context than conductivity alone.

Important boundary

The CCM 9500/9580 configuration is application-specific. Other dissolved substances, temperature range, contamination and required accuracy must be reviewed; a single-component CCM 8500 should not be assumed equivalent for this dual-component duty.

Sources and application boundary

The sources below establish the measurement context; they are not evidence of a PMA installation at your site. Final suitability depends on the actual material, operating range, installation and representative validation.
