Grinding Circuit Slurry Density Monitoring

Use continuous non-nuclear density data to understand mill feed, cyclone classification and grinding-circuit balance.

Discuss your application

Define the grinding stream and the decision it supports

Grinding circuits can contain several candidate points with different solids ranges and operating value. Select one fully flooded stream, document its ore and hydraulic range, and align the SDM ECO trend with samples and flow before using it for control or mass balance.

Build the grinding-circuit measurement basis

The installation should be designed around the actual circuit, not a generic mill label.

Candidate point

Review mill feed, discharge, regrind feed or cyclone feed and state why that point represents the decision.

Ore and solids range

Document mineralogy, particle size, solids concentration, density range and credible process transitions.

Hydraulic conditions

Confirm full pipe, velocity, pressure, liner, pump and bend proximity, abrasion and entrained air.

Validation evidence

Use time-aligned density, flow, representative samples and operating events across the intended range.

A practical measurement review pathway

Move from a broad application to a defined, testable duty before the signal is used for process decisions.

Name the stream

Map the selected line and its upstream and downstream equipment.

Define normal states

Record stable, start-up, shutdown and upset conditions.

Survey the installation

Confirm fitting, access, pipe fill and maintenance requirements.

Validate before control

Compare the trend with representative evidence before closing a control loop.

Where the measurement can add value

Continuous measurement is useful only when the process boundary, validation method and operating response are explicit.

Operational value

A validated density trend can help operators see loading changes between samples and interpret grinding or classification performance.

Important limits

Density alone does not identify mineral grade, particle-size distribution or recovery. Those variables remain separate measurements.

Sources and application boundary

These sources define the general measurement context. Final suitability depends on the actual composition, operating range, pipe or vessel conditions, materials, installation point and validation evidence.
